Pike Road Does and Will Have…
- A plan for progress
The Town of Pike Road offers the most current land use and growth plan in the county, including provision for density, estate lots, town centers and open land. Pike Road 2005 v. Montgomery 1982.
- A local government controlled by local voices
300:1 is the citizen to council ratio in Pike Road. In Montgomery, the ratio is 21,500:1 This means local people are making decisions about issues that impact Pike Road.
- Zoning that is under local control
Pike Road only zones within its town limits. Montgomery zones for three miles outside of its city limits.
- Enhanced economic opportunities
Through careful planning of town centers and retail areas, Pike Road will have a variety of shops, markets and professional offices.
- Quality road maintenance
The Town of Pike Road has negotiated an agreement with the county for ten years of road maintenance.

- Designed recreation plan
Pike Road’s recreation plan utilizes a wealth of natural resources to provide horse trails, bike trails, running trails, fishing, and other environmental and agricultural opportunities. Plans are in place to develop town parks and provide community ball fields.
Pike Road Does Not...
- Prohibit growth
The Town of Pike Road has the same standards for growth and development as the City of Montgomery. Pike Road’s subdivision regulations and Montgomery’s are practically the same. Both cover a five-mile area outside of the city limits. Smart Code and conventional zoning are both offered in Pike Road.
- Increase taxes
Pike Road’s taxes are currently less than the City of Montgomery’s. Pike Road has 29 mills property and 8.75% sales tax. Montgomery has 36.5 mills property and 10% sales tax.
**With the continued interest in a municipal school system and the astounding growth of the town since 1997, the Town of Pike Roadwas recently authorized by the Alabama Legislature to hold a municipal referendum to consider an advalorem tax increase of up to 25 mills to support the Pike Road School System. The town council chose to set the millage rate for the referendum at 16 mills. For more information on this process, please visit here or call (334) 272-9883.
- Keep going down the “concrete box” path
“Build up, Build out and Move on” has long been the urban model for many cities (i.e. vacant parking lots, empty malls, deserted strip centers, empty fast food restaurants and vacant franchise stores). This is not the case in the Town of Pike Road.
- Expect everything to be estate lots and farm land
The Town of Pike Road desires diversity of use that builds property value and wealth.
- Raise fees and permit costs
The average cost of fees, permits and licenses is comparable to surrounding cities.
- Obstruct landowner use with unique ordinances
Residents enjoy county-like use in Pike Road. Montgomery has ordinances that restrict hunting, pets, and livestock.
- Allow for unplanned transportation corridors
The Town of Pike Road hopes to limit traditional-style bypasses featuring interchanges with congestion and an overall lack of beauty caused by signs, billboards, etc.
- Disregard the character and heritage of the area
Pike Road planning protects the natural resources, beauty and the heritage of the area.
