Sharing Their Stories: Honoring & Remembering Our Veterans

We would love to hear about – or from – the veterans you know and love. Every veteran is someone’s friend, sister, father, and so much more. From service-related memories to special times shared at home, we hope you will consider sharing with us.

About the Event

Honoring and Remembering Our Veterans - One Story at a Time

Patriotic spirit runs deep in the Town of Pike Road, and we are honored to be home to so many who have served our country. We are grateful for the opportunity to express the pride and appreciation we have for our nation’s servicemen and women through the annual Pike Road Veterans Appreciation Ceremony and the dedication of personalized brick pavers in the Veterans Memorial Walk of Honor each November. These activities remind us not only that each brick laid in Walk of Honor represents acts of service and sacrifices of American heroes, but also that each act of service and every sacrifice has a name and a story.

This year, as we seek to provide new and meaningful ways of showing our appreciation for the military population in the Town of Pike Road and beyond, we invite you to participate in the collection and preservation of veterans’ stories. Our intention is to build a virtual library of memories and stories that can be shared with the community in honor and remembrance. We would love to hear about – or from – the veterans you know and love. Every veteran is someone’s friend, sister, father, and so much more. From service-related memories to special times shared at home, we hope you will consider sharing with us.

Click here to access a Veterans’ Story Collection Interview Guide, which can be utilized by everyone, especially those who are trying to capture someone else’s story. You can use as many or as few of the prompts as you would like to help shape your story’s narrative. Stories can be submitted to info@pikeroad.us or uploaded to this link (https://bit.ly/36NAlVc) and those received by October 30th will be shared as a part of our 2020 Veterans Appreciation celebrations. You’re welcome to submit written narratives, photos, videos, or audio recordings in the following formats: written stories in a Word document or PDF; pictures in .PNG or .JPG; videos in .mov or.mp4;  audio files in .mp3 or .wav. Please feel encouraged to connect with us if you need any assistance collecting your story.

We look forward to getting to know more about you and your veteran. It is an honor to be able to preserve these stories for generations to come and we are humbled by the support you’ve already given for community veterans’ projects.
