Pike Road 12th Annual Plein Air Paint Out

Join us on Oct. 19 - 21 as artists from across the River Region and beyond bring their unique talents and creative spirits to our hometown for the 12th annual Pike Road Plein Air Paint Out. Plein air painting is fast-paced, outside (plein air is French for “outdoors”) and focuses on landscapes and scenes' ever-changing light and colors. Pike Road Arts Council Coordinator, Patty Payne, welcomes and invites the whole community to join in the fun of the Pike Road, Alabama 2023 Paint Out featuring Alabama Plein Air Artists. This year’s theme is “Unique Spaces, Special Places." Participating artists will be out and about during the weekend, capturing the unique rural charm and treasured community characteristics that make the Town of Pike Road such a special place to live and visit. We encourage everyone to stop, say hello, and share that Pike Road “Welcome Home” hospitality as artists disperse and paint around the Town. We look forward to seeing the familiar faces of artists who have been painting with us for the last 12 years, and we welcome new artists joining us for the first time!  - Thursday, October 19, 4 - 8 p.m.: Pre-registration      

• There will be plenty of food and refreshments waiting at the Pike Road Arts Center (944 Wallahatchie Rd) for artists to pick up their registration packets and get their panels stamped! Each registration packet includes a gift, schedule and rules, local, information, and snack bag.

  - Thursday, October 19, 5 p.m.: Blended Brushes

• Professional Plein Air artists Barbara Binford Davis and Perry Austin work together to complete two paintings in less than 90 minutes. At the start of time, each artist will work on painting a landscape on their own canvas. Halfway through the 90 minutes, each artist will switch and finish the other artist’s painting! Two lucky people will get to take home these works of art after the drawing on Saturday evening.

 

 - Friday, October 20, 7:30 a.m.: Artist Registration        

• Come get your snacks and stamps when you check in at the PRAC! All art submitted for the Plein Air Wet Paint Art Show must be stamped by PRAC on Friday or Saturday.

 

 - Friday, October 20, 8:30 a.m.: Live Plein Air Painting Demonstration

• Details about the live painting demonstration will be coming soon!

 

- Friday, October 20, 5 - 8 p.m.: Golden Hour Painting at The Waters 

• Plein Air artists will gather throughout The Waters to capture the beauty of the area at the “Golden Hour" (the “Golden Hour” is an hour before and after sunset which around Pike Road makes for some spectacular views and amazing artwork). Everyone is encouraged to come out and watch! Be on the lookout for the Pike Road Arts Council Table (the exact location within The Waters will be posted on Facebook and Instagram that morning) where you can learn more about plein air activities and get a sneak peek of some of the artwork that has been submitted for the show (some of the artwork may be available to win at the Show and Sale on Saturday).

 - Saturday, October 21, 7:30 a.m.: Artist Registration

• Come get your snacks and stamps when you check in at the PRAC! All art submitted for the Plein Air Wet Paint Art Show must be stamped by PRAC on Friday or Saturday.

 - Saturday, October 21, 4 p.m.: All art Turned In, Framed, and Ready to Hang for the Show

• Submit as many as you can complete in two days! To be fair to all artists, please watch your time - late work will not be accepted. Please bring your own framing supplies, as the PRAC has limited supplies available.

 - Saturday, October 21, 5 – 7 p.m.: Plein Air Art Show, Sale, and Reception

• The winners of the Blended Brushes drawing will be announced at 6:30 p.m. People's Choice Awards Voting will be open through 6:30 p.m., and the winner will be announced at 6:45 p.m.!
