Plein Air Paint Out

On Oct. 14 – 15, artists from the River Region and beyond will bring bright eyes and creative spirits to our hometown for the 11th annual Pike Road Plein Air Paint Out, with the intention of capturing the beauty of our community in their own artistic styles. “Plein air” painting is fast paced, outside (plein air is French for “outdoors”) and focuses on the ever-changing light and colors of landscapes and scenes. As artists disperse and paint around the Town of Pike Road, please feel encouraged to stop, say hello, and observe these talented creators in action. The community is invited to explore and purchase art created during the 2022 Plein Air Paint Out at the Wet Paint Art Show and Sale from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Pike Road Arts Council Coordinator Patty Payne welcomes and invites you to the Pike Road, Alabama 2022 Paint Out featuring the Alabama Plein Air Painters! This year’s theme is “Welcome Home” as we will celebrate the 25th birthday of the Town of Pike Road in October! We are looking forward to seeing those of you who have been painting with us during the past decade and welcoming new artists who are coming for the first time! - Thurs., Oct. 13, 4 – 9 p.m.: Early Registration 

There will be plenty of food and refreshments waiting at the Pike Road Arts Center (944 Wallahatchie Rd) for artists to pick up their registration packet and get their panels stamped! Registration packet includes a gift, schedule and rules, local, information, and snack bag.

- Thurs., Oct. 13, 6 - 7:30 p.m.: Blending of the Brushes

Live painting event and fundraiser open to the public. Watch as three professional Plein air artists (Barbara B. Davis, John B. Guernsey, and Craig Reynolds) work on one canvas to complete a painting in less than 90 minutes. A lucky person will get to take it home after the drawing on Saturday evening!

- Fri., Oct. 14, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.: Check In 

Come get your snacks and stamps when you check in at the PRAC! All art submitted for the Plein Air Wet Paint Art Show must be stamped by PRAC on Friday or Saturday.

-Fri., Oct. 14, 1 p.m.: "Getting Color in the Landscape" Demonstration

Artist Barbara Davis will be hosting Friday's "Getting Color in the Landscape" demonstration, hosted at Grace Episcopal Church at 1 p.m.

- Sat., Oct. 15, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.: Check In & Submit Your Pieces 

Submit as many as you can complete in two days! To be fair to all artists, please watch your time - late work will not be accepted. Please bring your own framing supplies, as the PRAC has limited supplies available, and have all the lovely artwork ready to hang at 5 p.m.

-Sat., Oct. 15, 9 a.m.: "Putting Atmosphere in the Landscape" Demonstration

Artist David Jones is hosting "Putting Atmosphere in the Landscape" at Founders Station Veteran's Memorial at 9 a.m.

- Sat., Oct. 15, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.: Wet Paint Art Show & Sale 

Doors open at the PRAC for the Plein Air Wet Paint Art Show and Sale at 5:00 p.m. for artists and pledged sponsors, and the community is invited to attend and enjoy an evening reception from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The drawing for the "Blending of the Brushes" piece will take place at 7 p.m. Vote for your favorite pieces on display, and People's Choice Winners will be announced at 7:15 p.m.!
