About the Event

This spring, create a new family tradition by learning Pysanky, a traditional Ukrainian egg dying technique, with artist Korey Rowswell at the Pike Road Arts Center (944 Wallahatchie Rd).

The Pysanky technique features beeswax designs applied to the surface of eggs, which are then dipped in special dyes to create intricate and vibrant keepsakes. This three-hour class is suitable for ages 8+, and participants will take home as many pysanky as they can create! Tuition is $40 per person and includes ALL materials.

There will be two Pysanky workshops at the Pike Road Arts Center, so plan to attend one or both!

- Mar. 3, 5 - 8 p.m.

- Mar. 10, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Registration is required, and space is limited. Please email Arts Council Coordinator Patty Payne at patty@pikeroad.us to register today!

This workshop will be led by artist Korey Rowswell. Korey is a sculptor who creates biomorphic textile sculptures and installations that explore environmental themes. Interested in the sculptural aspects of stitch, he uses the tactile nature of embroidery to embody being present in the environment. Korey creates visual depth through color and the weight, texture, and directionality of the stitches. Korey received his BA in Art History from Hastings College. He has lived and exhibited in Japan. In 2014, he became a fifth-level instructor at the Ohara school of ikebana. Korey has received various awards including ArtsKC Inspiration Grant, Artist Inc fellowship, and residency fellowships at Art Farm Nebraska and Jentel Artist Residency.

The Pike Road Arts Center is located at 944 Wallahatchie Rd, under the water tower. It is home to the Water House Gallery, studio space, and a variety of events presented by the Pike Road Arts Council, an ENHANCE initiative committee.
