Laura Murphey is a Birmingham based artist. She recently graduated from the core program at Grand Central Atelier in NYC. She has been painting for over 40 years. She likes to paint portraits, landscapes, and still life in oil and always from life. Her favorite subjects are the everyday things in nature that have beauty and give simple pleasure. She abhors perfection and instead believes that your very best is good enough and imperfections are what make a painting unique and appealing. She loves the freshness of alla prima painting but uses long painting to improve her alla prima skills.
The feeling of "almost falling" but still keeping the ball is what makes many people love slope Game, because it brings excitement mixed with satisfaction.
I've really enjoyed looking at Laura Murphey's art journey - her 40+ years of painting experience combined with formal training at Grand Central Atelier shows in her work. Her philosophy about embracing imperfections resonates with me as a creative person. This reminds me of how in the Sprunki game, players also learn to adapt and find beauty in unexpected outcomes rather than seeking perfection. Laura's dedication to painting from life across different subjects demonstrates the kind of authentic approach that makes art truly meaningful.
