Pictured, MJ Dobbins shows off her painting, Ballerina Scarecrow, created during the 2020 Pike Road Plein Air Paint Out.
I was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and raised on a farm near there until I left home to attend university. I was interested in art from an early age but didn’t really pursue my life-long interest until I returned to university to finish my degree and earned a B.F.A. as an adult. I have always been very creative thought it wasn’t always painting until about 6 years ago. My husband’s job took us out of the county for a number of years and we still moved a couple of times when we returned to the States.
I started attending art shows in and around the Birmingham area in 2015. As a member of Mountain Brook Art Association, I also exhibit at the association 2 annual shows including at Brookwood Village - now at the Summit during the Christmas season each year. I have continued to show my work through various invitations including Forstall Art Supply and at the Kessler building in downtown Birmingham. I currently exhibit at and am a member of Artist Incorporated in Vestavia as of January 2018.
In addition to painting what inspires me, I do commissioned work for portraits of children and adults as well as pets including dogs and cats. To learn more, contact me at autumnsky46@gmail.com.
