About the Artist: Korey Rowswell creates biomorphic textile sculptures and installations that explore environmental themes. Interested in the sculptural aspects of stitch, he uses the tactile nature of embroidery to embody being present in the environment. Korey creates visual depth through color and the weight, texture, and directionality of the stitches. Korey received his BA in Art History from Hastings College. He has lived and exhibited in Japan. In 2014, he became a fifth-level instructor at the Ohara school of ikebana. Korey has received various awards including ArtsKC Inspiration Grant, Artist Inc fellowship, and residency fellowships at Art Farm Nebraska and Jentel Artist Residency.
